The Owl’s Head Celebrates
5 Year Anniversary
with Holiday Charity Fundraiser
December 23rd Event at Bay Ridge Wine Bar
Will Raise Money for the It Gets Better Project
December 5, 2016 - Bay Ridge, Brooklyn -- The Owl’s Head, a bar specializing in unique wines and craft beers, is celebrating its 5th anniversary with a holiday party on Friday, December 23rd to raise money for the It Gets Better Project.
Besides being able to help raise money for a worthy cause, attendees can participate in “Introverted Caroling” designed for those who like the idea of singing holiday songs but would prefer to stay inside a cozy bar and not bother other people.
The bar will also have a limited offering of a special gravity-fed cask of holiday beer from Birrificio Almond'22, a small micro brewery on the green hills of Pescara in Abruzzo, Italy. The "Christmas Cru" is brewed with the must of grapes from Montepulciano D'abruzzo along with cinnamon, nutmeg, orange zest and ginger.
“Everyone deserves to be respected for who they are and we wanted to help support the message of hope that It Gets Better offers around the world,” said John Avelluto, owner of the Owl’s Head. “If we can do that with singing and drinking and laughing - even better.”
All donations received by The Owl’s Head in person and online will go directly to the It Gets Better Project. Launched by syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage and his partner Terry Miller, the It Gets Better Project is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that leverages the power of media to reach and provide critical support and hope to LGBTQ young people around the world. Through collaborative partnerships elevating positive portrayals of the LGBTQ community, the It Gets Better Project strives to communicate to LGBTQ youth that it gets better – and inspire the changes necessary to make it better for them. The It Gets Better Project received the 2012 Governor’s Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and has garnered support from President Obama and 500,000 others who have taken the pledge to share messages of hope and to speak up against intolerance.
This is the second event held in support of the It Gets Better Project, the first being held shortly after the attack on the the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
